A natural habitat of flora
nestled between Cansiglio
and the mighty mountain ranges

The Garden

The Garden offers a rich catalogue of flora from the Cansiglio Forest and allows the visitor to enjoy magnificent blooms, majestic trees and small animals that inhabit the zone within an area of 25,000 square metres.

Designed in 1972 by Professor Giovanni Lorenzoni, University of Padua and Giovanni Zanardo, Forestry Inspector, the Alpine Botanical Garden is located on the Cansiglio Plateau. To date nearly 1,000 species of plants have been collected from the ancient Forest and the Col Nudo-Cavallo massif: a vast area between the provinces of Belluno, Treviso and Pordenone. This wonderful botanical collection, offers visitors a chance to observe its characteristics, learn about the environment and enjoy its beauty.
The Botanical Garden combines educational, aesthetic, along with scientific and conservation practices. It offers a unique opportunity for the public to study with the help of educational panels, many aspects of the flora from the region and to learn first-hand, all about the rare and native species of this magnificent place. The habitats in the Garden are very diverse and are representative of the whole territory that surrounds it. In particular visitors can admire alpine environments, the vegetation of wetlands, beech forests, silver fir and spruce, mountain herbs, plants from arid alpine environments and some very rare species.
The Garden is owned by Veneto Agricoltura and is curated by the Lorenzoni naturalistic Association. The Visitors Centre offers educational tours for all age groups..
